Gyo’s abbey in Saint Louie The distinguished abbey chapel building in Saint Louis, Missouri was designed by architect Gyo Obata of Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum.

It seems to me that there is a nod to mounds in the design and landscape of this Mounds City building. Or, do I have mounds on the brain?

The mounds of Saint Louis are noted for having been built up in layers over time by a pre-Columbian civilization, the Mississippian Culture. At Cahokia, there was a building on top of the largest mound, named Monk Mound (really), that was either a religious temple or a civic building for its chief who looked out on the city.
