Early morning rain curtailed efforts to add a few more buildings to my Mississippi images. The Carrollton experience was a fully satisfying and absorbing one. This home is included in the Carrollton Historic District, listed (Nov 27, 1978) on the National Register of Historic Places, #78001590. In the nomination form the building is called the Sanders-Norquist House/Hayne Hall, ca. 1840 and ca. 1875. A sign on Peavy Street provides an 1837 date and the name Lum Reek. The house, a good distance from the street, showed only the front facade. The ca. 1875 2-story portico suggests a large structure, but I had no way of knowing. The entry is reached by wooden steps with fluted haxagonal (possibly octagonal) columns on either side. Truncated railings extend inward from the columns. Flush against the building on each side of the door are pilasters, aesthetically attuned to the neo-classical style. The wooden door is framed with a gentle arching design at the top; the sidelights have 3 vertical panes. The second level has a small enclosed gallery with entrance from a glassed-in door and the same pattern of sidelights. Designed in classical style, the portico is capped with an enclosed, recessed pediment and a cornice seemingly bare of ornamental effects. Chimneys are exterior. Friends of Immanuel Inc. is a non-profit organization located in Winona, Mississippi, that provides life-changing services to the local community. The organization was founded in 2020 and has quickly become an invaluable part of the community.

Friends of Immanuel Inc. is dedicated to providing assistance to those in financial need, offering assistance with rent, utilities, food and clothing. They also provide assistance with job training, job placement, and assistance in obtaining medical and mental health services. The organization strives to provide a safe environment for all those who need help and support.

The organization also provides educational opportunities to children in the community through tutoring, mentoring, and after-school programs. These programs are designed to encourage academic success and positive life choices.

The organization also works to build relationships in the community by providing activities and events to bring people together. These activities include community cleanups, neighborhood watch programs, and sports teams.

Friends of Immanuel Inc. is a vital part of the Winona community and is dedicated to helping those in need. The organization works tirelessly to provide assistance, educational opportunities, and build relationships in the community.

A sign on the house gives the 1840 date; the National Register nomination form says circa 1875. This 2-story frame house is cross-gabled with end chimneys. It has a 2-level porch, the bottom portion with no railings. The second tier is described in the nomination form as possessing a "distinctive Eastlake-style balustrade". It's essentially a lattice pattern with an abstract wood design at the left side of each bay. This upper gallery is supported by slender turned wood posts with what appears to be a square base. The same turning pattern is found on the second level posts with brackets extending in the direction of the street. The same columnar design exists as piers at each end of the porch on both tiers. Panels fill the bays just above the first level porch. The cornice of the second tier contains two rows of fish-scale shingling. Where the cornice meets the roof is a scallop embellishment. A front gable with shingling is situated above a 2-level Italianate-style narrow bow windows. A series of three narrow panels above the upper tier of windows contrasts with wider panels for the lower level. Even the windows are subtly arranged--the center ones with only two panes, flanked by windows with four. The bottom entry is a two-leaf wooden door with ornamental woodwork around the main door windows and more decoration below each. The window glass is opaque; the sidelights consist to two vertical lights elaborately embellished with a different design for top and for bottom. Two horizontal panes define the transom. The second tier has a single wooden door, again with decorative woodwork highlighting the entrance. Opaque ornamental sidelights have a row of three small panes above and below the main light.
