Half a VW at the Lucky Rabbit As I made my photo walk around Hattiesburg, I noticed this neat store, but it's only open on Saturdays and Sundays. I guess I'd called it a quirky antique store, but it's hard to say when you can only look on the outside. The half of a Volkswagen Beetle is certainly attention-getting.

Hattiesburg, MS Train Station The passenger and freight depot in Hattiesburg, MS was built by Southern Railroad in 1910. Today, it is still a stop for Amtrak. Multiple Ghost Signs - Hattiesburg, MS This abandoned business is located along E. Pine St., where US11 travels east from downtown Hattiesburg.

Along the top is the name ouf the business, which includes Auto Machine Co. Along the front in green squares are the names of auto part manufacturers the mechanic used.

In all of this, I think I also see more than two layers of Royal Crown Cola ads.

Faded Wall ads - Hattiesburg, MS It looks like this ghost sign has been painted multiple times. I think the easiest part to read is on the left where I see Smoking and &quot;Standard of the World.&quot; I believe this is a Bull Durham Tobacco ad. On the right, I see &quot;Shoes.&quot; At one time, I suspect this building was taller and we only see the lower portion now.

National Bank of Commerce - Hattiesburg, MS The rest of the building is long gone, but the front façade remains. At the top are dates of 1895 and 1907.

Lamar County Courthouse (New) - Purvis, MS For a modern courthouse, this one built in 1998 has better than average interestingness.

The Spike that Binds This sculpture is a life-sized man made entirely out of railroad spikes. It's located at the Hattiesburg, MS train station and was unveiled by artist Jason Kimes in 2010 as part of the stations centennial celebration.

Forrest County Courthouse - Hattiesburg, MS This courthouse is on the National Register of historic places as part of the Hub City Historic District. Here is the text from the nominating form:

Forrest County Courthouse, 628, 630 Main Street. Neo-Classical Revival. Three-story brick with stone trim, nine-by-nineteen-bay, raised basement, main entrance at second floor. Two-story balconied portico supported by Ionic columns. Stone trim at lintels, string courses, pilaster bases and capitals, at cornice. Two-story eight-bay brick enlargement (628 Main Street), stone sills and lintels, added at southeast corner and set back from street creating small park-like area with trees and shrubs. 1905, remodeled 1922.

Lamar County War Memorial - Purvis, MS This photo was actually taken on Memorial Day 2019, so the flags were at half staff. This is located on the grounds of the county courthouse.
