The Commerce Township Area Historical Society (CTAHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting and promoting the history and heritage of the Walled Lake area. Founded in 1980, it is located in the historic Walled Lake Depot, a former train station that was built in 1891.

CTAHS serves as a repository for artifacts, photographs, documents and oral histories related to the area, and it hosts events throughout the year to celebrate local history. Its main facility includes a museum and a research library, both of which are open to the public free of charge. The museum displays artifacts, photographs and documents that tell the story of the people who lived and worked in the area, including old tools, furniture and other everyday items from the past. The research library contains a wealth of information on the area, including an extensive collection of books, maps, pamphlets and other materials.

The CTAHS also works to preserve the area’s natural beauty and open spaces. Its volunteers have helped to restore several historical sites in the area, from old barns to abandoned buildings. Additionally, the society advocates for the protection of the area’s open spaces, including the Walled Lake Nature Preserve.

Through its exhibits, events, research library and preservation efforts, the CTAHS strives to ensure that the area's rich history and heritage are preserved for future generations.
