The Farmington Historical Society was founded in 1978 to preserve and promote the unique and diverse history of Farmington, Michigan. The society has gathered and preserved a wide variety of artifacts, photographs, and documents that tell the story of Farmington’s past. They have also published several books about the area’s history, including “Farmington: A History of Our Town from 1824 to Today.”

The Society operates the Farmington Historical Museum, located in the former Farmington Post Office. The museum offers a variety of exhibits that highlight the history of the area, ranging from Native American artifacts to the history of the local farms and factories. There are also interactive displays and a research library. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday and offers both self-guided tours and docent-led tours.

The Society also offers a variety of educational and outreach programs, including lectures, workshops, and a living history program. These programs give the community an opportunity to learn more about the area’s history and engage with it in a meaningful way.

The Society also hosts several special events throughout the year, such as the Farmington Heritage Festival, the Heritage Day Parade, and the Farmington Historic Homes Tour. These events are meant to celebrate the history of the area and bring the community together.
