The Pickens County Courthouse in Carrollton, Alabama is a stately, two-story building that sits in the middle of the town square. Constructed in 1827, the courthouse has been home to the county government for nearly two centuries. The courthouse was designed in the Federal Style and is constructed of brick, with a slate roof and ornate wooden details. The building’s exterior is a combination of red and white, which is typical for courthouses of that era.

Inside, the courthouse contains a large courtroom, various offices and chambers, and a public waiting area. The courtroom has a raised judge’s bench, a jury box, and a gallery, as well as a podium for courtroom proceedings. The chambers, located on the second floor, house the offices of the county’s elected officials and staff.

The Pickens County Courthouse is also home to a number of artifacts, including a portrait of the county’s first judge, Edmund W. Pettus, and a copy of the original county charter. The courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it remains an important symbol of Pickens County’s history and culture.
