By the early 2000s the rail-trail conversion was well underway on the CIS (Clinton, Ionia, Shiawassee) east-west route for joggers, walkers, and bicyclists (skiers in winter). The Ovid Historical Society is a nonprofit organization located in Ovid, Michigan. The society’s mission is to preserve and promote the history of Ovid and the surrounding area. The society was founded in 1972 by a group of local residents who recognized the importance of preserving the area’s rich history.

The society operates out of the Ovid Township Hall, which was built in 1877 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building serves as the society’s museum and contains a collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents that tell the story of Ovid and its residents.

The society hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including historical talks, walking tours, and educational programs for children. Members of the society also conduct research and publish articles and books on local history.

The Ovid Historical Society is run by a board of directors and relies on donations and memberships to fund its operations.
