At full size view the complete text of the marker is readable and much of the above ground traces of the old lumber mill can be seen in the background at this location near the lake which offered relatively easy transportation over the ice of deep winter or in the water when the lake thawed. The Historical Society of Missaukee County in Lake City MI is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Missaukee County, MI and the surrounding area. Founded in 1971, the Historical Society of Missaukee County is located in the old county courthouse in Lake City, MI. The Society collects and preserves artifacts, documents, photographs, and audio-visual materials related to the history of Missaukee County and the surrounding area. The Society also maintains a museum and library which are open to the public.

The Museum has a variety of exhibits showcasing the history of Missaukee County and the surrounding area. These exhibits include artifacts, photographs, documents, and other materials related to the history of Missaukee County. The Library is a research library with a collection of books, periodicals, government documents, and photographs related to the history of Missaukee County and the surrounding area. The library also has an online catalog and a database of over 5,000 images.

The Historical Society of Missaukee County is involved in many activities, such as lectures, book club, bus tours, and special events.
