The Metamora Historical Society is located in the small village of Metamora in Michigan’s Lapeer County. It was founded in 1976 by a group of local citizens who were interested in preserving the unique history of the area. The main focus of the society is to research and collect artifacts related to the history of the small village, its people and its surrounding area.

The Society also works to increase public awareness of the historical significance of Metamora, and works to protect and preserve the architectural, archaeological and cultural resources of the area. The Society’s museum is housed in the old Metamora Town Hall, which was built in 1880. Here, visitors can explore the history of Metamora, with displays on the area’s Native American and pioneer history, as well as the town’s role in the Underground Railroad.

The Society also holds numerous educational events throughout the year, such as lectures, workshops and school field trips. In addition, the Society hosts an annual summer festival, which features local music and food vendors, as well as a variety of activities for children.

The Metamora Historical Society is an important part of the local community, providing an important link to the area’s past and helping to educate its citizens about the area’s history. It is an invaluable resource for not only the citizens of Metamora, but also for historians and visitors alike.
