The Kalamazoo County Historical Society Inc. (KCHS) is a nonprofit organization established in 1960 and dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Kalamazoo County, Michigan. KCHS operates a museum, archives, and research library that house an extensive collection of artifacts, manuscripts, photographs, and other materials related to Kalamazoo County’s past. The museum is located in the historic Upjohn Building, which was built in the late 19th century by the famous pharmaceutical entrepreneur Dr. W.E. Upjohn.

KCHS offers a variety of educational programs and events designed to engage the community with its history. Visitors can explore the museum’s exhibits and displays, attend lectures and presentations, and participate in special events such as reenactments and period dinners. The society also offers educational programs for school groups and offers free admission to select days throughout the year.

In addition to its museum and research activities, KCHS works to preserve and protect historically significant sites in Kalamazoo County. The society has developed the Kalamazoo County Historic Sites Register, which lists more than 130 sites deemed worthy of preservation for their historical, architectural, or archaeological significance. KCHS also publishes books and other materials about Kalamazoo County’s history.
