GRASS LAKE AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Grass Lake Area Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Grass Lake, Michigan. The society was established in 1974 and has since been actively collecting and archiving historical artifacts, documents and photographs related to the town and its surrounding areas.

The society operates several historic buildings including the Coe House Museum, the Waterloo Farm Museum, and the Little Red Schoolhouse. The Coe House Museum, built in 1875, was once the home of local merchant, Charles Coe, and now houses exhibits and artifacts related to the town's history. The Waterloo Farm Museum, located on a 10-acre property, features a restored 1850s farmhouse and other historic buildings, showcasing the life of a typical farm family in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Little Red Schoolhouse, built in 1844, is a one-room schoolhouse that was used until 1957 and is now preserved as a museum.

The society also hosts events and programs throughout the year, including lectures, tours, and community festivals, all aimed at promoting and preserving the town's rich history. The Grass Lake Area Historical Society's efforts have helped to establish the town as a destination for history enthusiasts and have ensured that the town's heritage will be preserved for future generations.
