Howell Area Historical Society is a non-profit organization located in Howell, Michigan, dedicated to preserving and promoting the history and heritage of the Howell area. The sculpture tree, made by chain saw carving In 2018, we had a sugar maple tree that was dying in the back yard. Rather than just cut it down, we had it converted into a sculpture tree by a local chain saw carver. Here is an autumn picture, with the neighbor's tree in full fall color. The images include a red tailed hawk, a racoon, a leaping frog, a cardinal, and a nesting mourning dove. The trunk of the tree was carved to resemble vines and includes an owl face and a cat profile. The tree has since been stained and sealed with a log cabin preservation stain and is in great shape.
