One brick at a time builds the final project At the scale of child's play there is LEGO for small and big projects. That is the special exhibit now at the GRAM (Grand Rapids Art Museum). But looking out the window into the evening light the downtown skyline of Grand Rapids stands, in part, thanks to the childhood playing of people who grew up to be architects, general contractors and skilled workers. Geometry in yellow and black The coffee station of the cafe is at the ready to brew and pour countless more mugs to the tastes of diners. Greener cemetery care - prairie for now at Fair Plains To the north and east of downtown Grand Rapids is one of the municipal burial grounds. Beginning around 2020 or 2021 to cut down on the cost of mowing the open ground and to reduce the grounds crew #carbonfootprint native plant consultants guided the planting of Michigan prairie species to be mown just once a year, as shown after the recent cut. A lot of trees despite expanding urban surfaces & services There are more and more paved roads and parking areas, rooftops and other hard surface the rain and snowmelt must move past to find ground to soak into. And yet this view shows the many trees now busy growing a new cover of leaves to turn CO2 into oxygen and sunlight into energy. So many other parts of the world are short of trees for shade and the many other #environmentalservices that they provide. North vista over Huff Park soon after sun up This view gives the baseball fields at top right, screened from the wetland by towering trees still bare from their winter rest. By the middle of the spring baseball season, though, only the sounds of hits and shouts of fans and players will tell wetland visitors that the playing ground lies nearby.
