Whately Historical Society Inc. (WHS) is a non-profit organization located in Whately, Massachusetts. Founded in 1968, WHS seeks to preserve and promote the history and heritage of Whately and the surrounding communities. In addition to preserving buildings, artifacts, and records of the area, WHS strives to educate the community about its history.

WHS owns and maintains several historic buildings in the area, including the Ashley House, the original home of the Ashley family, who were the founders of Whately. WHS also owns and maintains the 18th-century Meeting House, which served as the town hall and church in Whately’s early days. The society’s collection of artifacts includes furniture, clothing, tools, and photographs.

In addition to its preservation efforts, WHS also offers educational programs such as workshops and lectures, as well as guided walking tours of Whately’s historic sites. The society also produces books, podcasts, and videos about the history of the area.

WHS is a volunteer-run organization that is supported by local businesses, foundations, and individual donors. All proceeds from WHS’s programs and products go towards maintaining and preserving the society’s historic sites and artifacts. WHS also operates a gift shop in the Ashley House where visitors can purchase items such as books, postcards, and souvenirs.
