The Nantucket Preservation Trust (NPT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of Nantucket's natural and cultural resources. The Trust was founded in 1973 and is the only organization of its kind on the island. NPT is a member of the Massachusetts Historical Commission, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and is supported by many local organizations and individuals.

NPT works to protect and preserve Nantucket's historic buildings, landscapes, and cultural heritage. The Trust is committed to engaging citizens in the preservation of the island's unique character, and works to educate residents about the importance of preserving the island's historical and cultural significance.

NPT works with local and state agencies, property owners, and local organizations to identify, protect, and promote historic resources. The Trust also works to create and preserve open spaces, and advocate for policies that protect the island's unique environment. NPT also sponsors a variety of educational and cultural programs, such as lectures, walking tours, and other events, to help raise public awareness of the island's rich heritage.

The Trust also works to preserve and maintain Nantucket's historic cemeteries, and has established a cemetery preservation fund to help ensure the long-term care of these special places. In addition, the Trust has a revolving fund that is used to purchase and restore historic properties.

The Trust is committed to protecting and preserving Nantucket's past, and to promoting the island's heritage for future generations. Through its work, NPT seeks to ensure that Nantucket remains a vibrant and livable community for all its residents.
