Hancock Shaker Village, located in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, is a living history museum dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Shaker people. The Shakers were a religious sect that lived a communal lifestyle based on simplicity, hard work, and self-sufficiency. Founded in 1790, the village was once home to some 300 members. Today, the village covers 800 acres and is home to 20 original Shaker buildings, including a round stone barn, a meeting house, a dwelling house, and various workshops.

Visitors can explore the village and learn about the Shakers through guided tours, interactive exhibits, and demonstrations. Highlights include the Great Stone Barn, which features an interactive exhibit on the Shakers’ use of technology; the Dwelling House, which showcases the Shakers’ furniture and textiles; and the Meeting House, which holds a rotating selection of Shaker artifacts. The village also hosts a variety of special events throughout the year, such as holiday celebrations, craft workshops, and concerts.

In addition to its many historical attractions, Hancock Shaker Village is also home to a variety of modern amenities, including a café, a gift shop, and a museum store. The village is open year-round and is a popular destination for school groups, families, and history buffs alike.
