The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) is a research library located in Worcester, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1812 by Isaiah Thomas, a Revolutionary War patriot and successful printer and publisher. The Society collects, preserves, and makes available for study all forms of printed materials from the United States and the Americas, from the colonial period through 1876. It contains the largest collection of books, pamphlets, broadsides, newspapers, periodicals, music, and graphic arts material printed through 1876 in what is now the United States, as well as manuscripts and a substantial collection of secondary texts, bibliographies, and digital resources related to the history and culture of the Americas prior to 1876.

The library holds more than four million items, including more than two million books and over one million pieces of sheet music, photographs, and other graphic materials. The library also holds the largest collection of early American newspapers, with more than 8,000 titles. It also holds a large collection of early American books, pamphlets, and broadsides. The library has a rich collection of materials related to Native American history, including treaties, reports, and narratives, as well as materials related to the history of African Americans in the United States.

In addition to its vast collection, the AAS also offers a range of educational and public programs, including lectures, seminars, and exhibits. It also offers fellowships to scholars and researchers interested in using the library's materials. The AAS is a member of several organizations, including the Council on Library and Information Resources, the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, and the American Library Association.
