The Massachusetts Horticultural Society (MHS) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1829 by a group of prominent Boston-area horticulturists. MHS is dedicated to the promotion of horticultural knowledge and the preservation of the state’s horticultural heritage. Located in Wellesley, MA, the Society’s mission is to “encourage the science and practice of horticulture.”

MHS offers educational programs, lectures, workshops, and field trips designed to increase public knowledge of horticulture. The Society also manages a library and research center, which houses a collection of books, periodicals, and other materials related to horticulture. The Society also hosts numerous events throughout the year, including the annual New England Spring Flower Show, the Massachusetts Flower Show, and the Massachusetts Garden Faire.

MHS also maintains an extensive network of public gardens throughout the state, including the Elm Bank Horticulture Center in Wellesley. The center features a number of gardens, including an herb garden, a perennial garden, and a cutting garden. In addition, the center contains a variety of educational and demonstration gardens, as well as a nursery.

The Society also sponsors a number of awards and scholarships, recognizing excellence in horticulture. These awards include the Gold Medal Award, the John P. Sargent Award, and the Elizabeth C. White Award. The Society also provides grants and scholarships to support horticultural research and education.

MHS is committed to fostering the growth of horticulture in Massachusetts and providing educational opportunities to those interested in horticulture. By providing resources and educational opportunities, the Society is helping to ensure the future of horticulture in the state.
