Baltimore - Inner Harbor: Blue Sky/One Family Under Sky / One Family, designed by Mark di Suvero, was dedicated in West Shore Park in the Inner Harbor, east of the World Trade Center, on May 4, 1980. The site specific abstract Cor-Ten steel sculpture, measuring approximately 70 inches by 36 inches by 78 inches, consists of four large steel beams placed vertically, meeting, with a fifth beam resting horizontally. On the ground nearby is a large sculpture of a propeller blade resting in a bed of bark chips outlined by railroad ties. The Pratt Street Power Plant, also known as the Pier Four Power Plant, is a historic structure at 601 East Pratt Street in Baltimore, built between 1900 and 1909 in the Neo-Classical style by Baldwin & Pennington. Initially serving as the main power source for the United Railways and Electric Company, it facilitated city-wide electric street railway operations and later became a central steam plant for the Consolidated Gas, Electric Light, and Power Company, a forerunner to Baltimore Gas and Electric. The plant, which operated with increasingly outdated equipment, saw intermittent use until a resurgence during World War II to support increased electricity demands. After a period of vacancy post-retirement, the building experienced several unsuccessful development attempts, including an indoor Six Flags theme park and a dance club. It was eventually transformed from 2001 to 2003 into the Power Plant Live! complex, a vibrant mixed-use venue.

Baltimore - Inner Harbor: Maryland 9/11 Memorial The Maryland 9/11 Memorial, located at the base of the Baltimore World Trade Center, was dedicated on September 11, 2011, to honor the lives lost in the terrorist attacks of 2001. The memorial includes twisted steel beams from the Twin Towers and damaged limestone pieces from the Pentagon's west wall atop marble blocks that hat carry the names and birthdates of the 69 victims from Maryland. Designed by the Baltimore architectural firm of Ziger/Snead, the memorial also incorporates a specific design where the Baltimore World Trade Center acts as a sundial, marking the time of the events on September 11 each year.
Baltimore - Inner Harbor: USS Constellation and World Trade Center The USS Constellation, a sloop-of-war launched in 1854, was the last and largest sail-only warship designed and built by the U.S. Navy. Before the Civil War, as part of the African Squadron, she saw service on antislavery patrol; during the war, she protected Union-sympathizing U.S. merchant ships from Confederate raiders. The warship eventually became a training ship for the navy before serving as the relief flagship for the Atlantic Fleet during World War II, finally arriving in Baltimore in 1955 for restoration to her original condition. The Baltimore World Trade Center, at 401 East Pratt Street, was built in 1977 by Henry Cobb and Pershing Wong of I.M. Pei & Partners. At 32 floors and 405-feet, it is the world's tallest even-sided pentagonal building (the five-sided JPMorgan Chase Tower in Houston, Texas is taller, but has unequal sides). Perched at the Harbor's edge, the building appears to rise out of the water, suggesting the prow of a ship. The 27th-floor has an observation deck, called "Top of the World," that offers panoramic views of Baltimore during daytime hours. The Inner Harbor is actually the end of the Northwest Branch of the Patapsco River and includes any water west of a line drawn between the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/wallyg/143735794/">National Aquarium in Baltimore</a> and the Rusty Scupper restaurant. While Baltimore has been a major U.S. seaport since the 1700s, the historically shallow water of the Inner Harbor was not conducive to large ships or heavy industry, most of which was concentrated in Locust Point, Fell's Point, and Canton. The Inner Harbor was chiefly a light freight commercial port and passenger port until the 1950s, when economic shifts ended both the freight and passenger use. Rotting warehouses and piers were eventually torn down and replaced by open, grass-covered parkland that was used for recreational purposes and occasional large events, such as city fairs and the significant 1976 bicentennial visit of tall ships. This initial renewal of the harbor area and its continued transformation into a major cultural and economic area of the city was spearheaded by Baltimore Mayor William Donald Schaefer. Harborplace, the waterfront festival marketplace, officially opened on July 1, 1980. Since being reincarnated as a cultural hub, the Inner Harbor has become the home to many tourist attractions. Baltimore: Westminster Burial Ground - The Gilmor Vault The Gilmor vault, probably built between 1812 and 1821, may have been designed by Robert Mills, architect of Baltimore's Washington Monument. In use until 1900, it originally housed the remains of 16 family members and a family nurse. In 1885 the bodes of Robert Gilmor, his wife and their children, along with the nurse, were moved to Greenmount Cemetery. Scottish-born Robert Gilmor (1748-1822) brought his young family to Baltimore from the Eastern Shore at the outset of the Revolutionary War. Profiting from wartime shipping and industry, Gilmor emerged in the 1790s as one of Baltimore's leading merchant princes. The Westminster Burial Ground, which along with Westminster Presbyterian Church sits on the grounds of the University of Maryland's School of Law at 519 West Fayetteville Street, was established in 1787 by the First Presbyterian Church. When the church was erected in 1852, it was constructed on brick arches, elevated above the graves, creating the "Baltimore Catacombs." A number of Famous Marylanders are interred here, including many Revolutionary patriots and veterans of the War of 1812. Its most famous resident, though, is American author Edgar Allan Poe. Baltimore: Westminster Burial Ground - A La Memorie D’Edgar Allan Poe This memorial originally in brass, was brought from France by Count F. de Byron-Khun et Prince Edgard de Waldeck under the auspices of the French Literary Society and placed here in the presence of The French Consul Mr. L. Rabilion June the 25th, 1921. When Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) died under mysterious circumstances in 1849, he was buried in an unmarked grave in the back of the Westminster Burying Ground, befitting of his financial and social status at the time. In 1875, the "Pennies for Poe" campaign culminated in the erection of a more appropriate monument, prominently placed at the front of the graveyard. Poe's remains were exhumed and reburied there, along with his aunt/mother-in-law Maria Clemm. His wife Virginia died in 1847, but it wasn't until 1865 that her remains were moved to the monument. Baltimore - Fells Point: The Horse You Came In On Saloon The Horse You Came In On Saloon, at 1626 Thames Street, is the oldest continuously running saloon in America, established in 1775. The only bar in Maryland to exist before, during and after prohibition, it is the last place Edgar Allan Poe was seen before his mysterious death in 1849.

Metzger, was originally erected on Eutaw Place in 1882 and later moved to its current location at Federal Hill. It honors Colonel George Armistead, who was he commander of Fort McHenry during the successful defense against the British assault in the War of 1812, which inspired the "Star-Spangled Banner."
Baltimore - Federal Hill: Federal Hill Park - Major General Samuel Smith This 8-foot tall bronze statue of Major General Samuel Smith, designed by Hans Schuler, was originally installed in Wyman Park in 1917 as part of the National Star Spangled Banner Centennial Commission. It was moved to the newly created Sam Smith Park in the 1950's, and relocated to its current home in Federal Hill Park in 1970. Major General Samuel Smith was a distinguished military leader and the ranking officer of Baltimore's militia during the War of 1812. He notably took charge of fortifying the city's defenses at the Battle of Baltimore. He also served as the 9th Mayor of Baltimore, represented Maryland as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and a two-time United States Senator, including as President pro tempore.
