![Dry Bones Dem Bones" (also called "Dry Bones" and "Dem Dry Bones") is a spiritual song. The melody was composed by author and songwriter James Weldon Johnson (1871–1938) and his brother, J. Rosamond Johnson. It was first recorded by The Famous Myers Jubilee Singers in 1928. Both a long and a shortened version of the song are widely known. The lyrics are inspired by Ezekiel 37:1–14, in which the prophet Ezekiel visits the Valley of Dry Bones and prophesies that they will one day be resurrected at God's command, picturing the realization of the New Jerusalem.

![Leaping Sturgeon Last year 25 fiberglass sturgeons were placed in front of businesses along Water Street in Augusta, Maine. The shop owners were responsible for decorating them in any way they preferred. This year they have been brought back. Water Street follows the Kennebec River that is just behind the row of buildings. It is not unusual to see these fish actually leaping and flopping back into the water. This one is in front of a local restaurant. I did take the liberty of removing the support that keeps the fish aloft. HSS
Sturgeon are an annual draw to the Kennebec, which has some of the best habitat for the ancient species in Maine and is home to both the endangered shortnose sturgeon and the Atlantic sturgeon, whose population is considered depleted.
Every year, from late spring to summer, Atlantic sturgeon can be seen launching themselves into the air and belly-flopping on the river. No one is sure why.
The fiberglass sturgeon, bearing the design of the artists and organizations chosen to take part, will be installed to make it appear they are leaping, too.
