The Canton Historical Society in Jay, Maine is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the town and surrounding area. Founded in 1979, the Society operates a museum and research library in the historic district, as well as a number of other programs. The museum features exhibits on local history, including the local economy, industry, and culture. The research library holds an extensive collection of manuscripts, photographs, and other historical documents.

The Society also publishes a quarterly newsletter, the Canton Historical News, which features articles on local history and genealogy. It also hosts lectures, walking tours, and field trips to sites of local historical significance. The Society also runs an annual canton fair, which includes antique and vintage auctions, children’s activities, and a variety of other activities. The Society also provides educational programs and workshops to local schools and organizations.

The Canton Historical Society is a member of the Maine Historical Society, and is funded in part by grants and donations. The Society is governed by a board of directors, and is supported by numerous volunteers. It is open to the public and is free to join. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

Hay Rake We went apple picking today in Readfield, Maine. A very pretty location with a nice view of the mountains in the west. This was on the property. This rig used a one horse power engine. I remember seeing my grandfather using one on his farm in Minnesota. Putting up hay was and is an important part of farming. We got some nice apples; honey crisp, Macintosh, and Cortland varieties.
