Olson House is a historic house located in Cushing, Maine. It was built in 1882 by the Olson family, and is a prime example of Shingle style architecture. The house is two and a half stories, with a gambrel roof and two and a half stories of windows. The exterior is characterized by its shingles, with a wide porch on the second story and a dormer window centered on the front facade.

Inside, the house is divided into two floors, with a sitting room, parlor, dining room, and kitchen on the first floor and four bedrooms on the second floor. All of the rooms feature original woodwork, with beadboard wainscoting, carved wood trim around windows and doors, and wood floors throughout. The house also includes a back staircase and a full basement.

The house is notable for its association with Andrew Wyeth, the renowned American painter, who painted the house and its surrounding landscape multiple times throughout his career. His most famous painting of the house, titled “Olson House”, is currently in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open to the public for tours by appointment. The house remains largely unchanged since Wyeth painted it, making it a unique and important piece of American art and architecture.

WW&F Ry Engine 9 This was taken after we returned from our tour. The engine had just taken on water and is now preparing to shuttle the train cars into their shed and then it will be shut down for the night inside the engine shed. I tried to edit this in Lightroom and I am happy with the leaf colors. The foreground color is way to warm. Did you know you can do this edit of video in Lr? Lightroom (not classic) the cloud version has a much improved way to edit video compared to Lightroom Classic which I use. There are a number of instructional videos on editing in Lr Classic on line. Far short of its international delusions of grandeur, the railway of “big dreams and little wheels” instead reached 50 miles into the heart of central Maine. Reorganized as the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington, the Railway served Maine’s Sheepscot Valley faithfully for the next 40 years before closing during the Great Depression. Brought back from extinction by a team of dedicated volunteers, today’s railway connects you with a Maine that has all but slipped away. Join us to experience authentic Maine.
