SAN FRANCISCO PLANTATION

San Francisco Plantation is a historic plantation house located in Garyville, Louisiana, about 40 miles outside of New Orleans. The house was built in 1856 and is considered one of the most impressive examples of the French Creole style of architecture in the region.

The plantation house is a two-story brick structure with a stucco finish and a distinctive onion-shaped cupola on top. The interior features 14-foot ceilings, ornate plaster moldings, and a grand staircase with a hand-carved banister. Visitors can explore the house and its many rooms, including the parlor, dining room, and bedrooms, which are decorated with period furnishings and artwork.

The surrounding grounds of the San Francisco Plantation are equally impressive, with formal gardens, fountains, and a sugar cane field. The plantation also includes several outbuildings, including a slave cabin and a blacksmith shop, which offer a glimpse into the daily life of the people who lived and worked on the plantation.

Today, the San Francisco Plantation is open to the public for tours, events, and weddings. It is also a popular destination for history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone interested in the rich cultural heritage of the South.
