May Beetles (Genus Phyllophaga) These are very common, all over right now. Checking ID still, got it is a May Beetle, but trying to sort what kind is still difficult. Lafayette LA.
tiny black wasp/soldier fly hauling cricket - no id yet Not many bugs out since it is still February. This guy crawled by though while I was in Moncus Park, and I did a bunch of shots thinking they'd all be bad since it was so tiny and moving. I only noticed after cropping that the wasp/soldier fly had been hauling a cricket larger than it was. The cricket is the more grainy black that the wasp partly blocks, and the one leg is the black grainy bit running down to be obscured by clover, and if you zoom you can see the other leg being identifiable in the shaded area where you can see the spiky leg hairs.
