The Historic New Orleans Collection (HNOC) is a museum, research center, and publisher located in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. Founded in 1966, the HNOC is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the city of New Orleans and the Gulf South region. The museum's collection includes more than one million objects from the colonial era to the present day, including rare books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, prints, and decorative arts.
The museum's permanent exhibition, The Founding of New Orleans, traces the city's history from its first settlement in 1718 to the present day. Other exhibits showcase the city's distinctive architecture, music, and cuisine, as well as its annual Mardi Gras celebration. The HNOC also hosts lectures, workshops, and other educational programs.
The HNOC's research center is the largest repository of archival materials related to New Orleans and the Gulf South region. It houses a wide range of documents, including letters, diaries, photographs, maps, and newspapers. Researchers can access the collections through the museum's online catalog.
