Baby alligators on log with mom There was one on mama's back. You can zoom for more detail on this one. I didn't know the mums looked after them after they hatched. Easter 2024. We hiked around Lake Martin. It was mostly cloudy, with the sun out occasionally briefly. There were a lot of alligators, and I'll be slowly uploading decent shots of critters including more alligators. Lake Martin, Louisiana

There were a lot of alligators at the lake, we walked around it today on Easter. The rookery is not accessible though, the raised wood trail to view the rookery is badly damaged. Louisiana

May Beetles (Genus Phyllophaga) These are very common, all over right now. Checking ID still, got it is a May Beetle, but trying to sort what kind is still difficult. Lafayette LA.
tiny black wasp/soldier fly hauling cricket - no id yet Not many bugs out since it is still February. This guy crawled by though while I was in Moncus Park, and I did a bunch of shots thinking they'd all be bad since it was so tiny and moving. I only noticed after cropping that the wasp/soldier fly had been hauling a cricket larger than it was. The cricket is the more grainy black that the wasp partly blocks, and the one leg is the black grainy bit running down to be obscured by clover, and if you zoom you can see the other leg being identifiable in the shaded area where you can see the spiky leg hairs. Bluegill at Moncus Park Caught four bluegill/sunfish on worm bait. They were lurking right beyond the reedbeds, around 1:00 p.m. Catch and release. Lafayette, LA.
carp At the Diamond Lakes apartments pond. It is nice to walk around the pond and look at the fish. There's bluegill/sunfish, bullheads, and the carp. Lafayette, LA
