The Arkansas Boston Mountains Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) is a nonprofit organization located in Springdale, AR. The Chapter is dedicated to preserving, studying, and promoting the history of railroads and railroad technology. The Chapter was founded in 2002 and is committed to keeping the railroad history alive for future generations by hosting educational programs and field trips, conducting research, and promoting the railroading industry and activities.
The Chapter has a strong membership of over 100 individuals, families and organizations from all parts of the state and beyond. With members from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas, the Chapter is well-connected with other rail groups in the region. Members of the Chapter take part in various educational and research activities including attending historical society meetings, conducting field trips, and hosting educational programs and workshops.
The Chapter holds its meetings every third Saturday of the month at the Springdale Public Library. The meetings are open to the public and feature a variety of railroad related topics, including history, technology, operations and current events. The meetings also feature guest speakers and other special events.
The Chapter also sponsors and participates in various events throughout the year, such as the Arkansas Boston Mountains Chapter National Railway Historical Society Annual Meeting and Model Train Show, held in Springdale each summer. The event is a great way to learn more about railroad history and technology, as well as meet other railroad enthusiasts.
