The Camp Nelson Education and Preservation Foundation Inc. (CNEPF) is a non-profit organization located in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Founded in 2009, the organization is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the historic Camp Nelson site, a former Civil War recruitment and training center. The Foundation works to promote the study of the history of the camp and its impact on the region, to preserve existing resources, and to create educational programs and exhibits.

Camp Nelson was originally established in 1863 by the Union Army as a recruitment and training center for African American troops. It was also a hospital, a refugee camp, and a supply center. By the end of the war, it was one of the largest and most important recruitment and training centers in the nation. After the war, the camp was abandoned, and the land eventually became a state park.

CNEPF works to preserve the historic structures and artifacts at Camp Nelson, including the original barracks, parade grounds, and burial site. The organization also offers educational programs, public events, and guided tours of the site. In addition, CNEPF works with local schools and organizations to promote the study of the camp’s history and its impact on the region.

The mission of CNEPF is to educate the public about the importance of Camp Nelson and its role in the Civil War, and to preserve its history and resources for future generations. Through its efforts, the organization hopes to ensure that the camp’s legacy will be remembered and honored.
