The Trego County Historical Society in WaKeeney, KS, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the Trego County area. The Society was founded in 1970 and has been collecting and preserving artifacts, documents, photographs, and other materials related to the history of Trego County ever since.
The Trego County Historical Society's museum is located in the old Trego County Courthouse building in downtown WaKeeney. The museum features a variety of displays, including a replica of a dugout home, an old-fashioned schoolroom, and a pioneer kitchen. There are also interactive displays, such as a walk-through of a portion of the original Ogallala-Arikara Trail, that allow visitors to learn about the history of the area.
