LEAVENWORTH COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM

The Leavenworth County Historical Society Museum is located in Leavenworth, Kansas and is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Leavenworth County. The museum is housed in a restored 1903 building that was once a Carnegie Library. The museum's collections include artifacts from the early Native American tribes that lived in the area, as well as exhibits on the county's military history, including Fort Leavenworth, which was established in 1827 and is the oldest continuously operating military installation west of the Mississippi River.

The museum also features exhibits on the county's early settlers and their way of life, including tools and equipment used in farming and ranching. Visitors can also learn about the county's role in the Civil War, including the infamous Quantrill's Raid on Lawrence, Kansas in 1863.

In addition to the permanent exhibits, the museum hosts rotating exhibits and special events throughout the year. The museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm and is staffed by knowledgeable volunteers who are happy to answer any questions visitors may have. Admission is free, though donations are appreciated to help support the museum's mission of preserving and sharing the history of Leavenworth County.
