The 7th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry was an infantry regiment from the state of Iowa that served during the Civil War. The regiment was organized in Minburn, Iowa, on August 15, 1862, under the command of Colonel William F. Barry. The regiment had a total of 1,071 men during its tenure and was composed of men from all over the state. They served in a variety of theaters, including Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama.

The 7th Iowa Cavalry saw significant action throughout the war, including the Battle of Chickamauga and the Battle of Missionary Ridge. At Chickamauga, they were part of the Union force that held off Confederate General Braxton Bragg’s attack. The regiment was also involved in the capture of Missionary Ridge and the Battle of Nashville. They were highly praised for their bravery and courage in battle.

After the war, the 7th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry mustered out of service on June 8, 1865. They were given a grand welcome home parade by the citizens of Minburn, Iowa, who were so grateful for their service. The regiment was highly honored for their heroic efforts during the war. The 7th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry went down in history as one of the most decorated regiments from Iowa during the Civil War.
