The Sac County Historical Society Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 1976 in Sac City, Iowa. It is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Sac County, Iowa. The Society was incorporated in the State of Iowa, and has been actively involved in the preservation of artifacts, documents, publications, photographs and other items of historical interest.
The Society has an active membership of approximately 400 people, and sponsors various events throughout the year. These include lectures, workshops, field trips and other activities to promote community awareness and appreciation of the county’s history. The Society also works closely with the county’s schools, providing educational materials and programs for students.
The Society’s archives contain hundreds of photographs, books, manuscripts and other documents and artifacts pertaining to the county’s history. The Society also owns and operates a museum, located in Sac City, which houses a variety of historical artifacts and information about the county’s past. The museum is open to the public and offers special exhibits on a variety of topics.
The Society also publishes a quarterly newsletter, as well as a book series and other publications, which include stories, anecdotes and other information about the county’s history. The Society also provides a genealogy service, which assists individuals in researching their family history.
