The Kalona Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Kalona, Iowa. It was founded in 1972 to document and promote the rich history of the area. The Society’s headquarters is located in the former Kalona Public Library, which was constructed in 1894. The Society’s mission is to preserve and interpret the history of the Kalona area and to provide meaningful educational and recreational experiences for its members and the public.

The Society offers a variety of historic sites for visitors to explore. Visitors can take a tour of the Kalona Historical Village, which consists of nine historic buildings, including a blacksmith shop, a print shop, and a one-room schoolhouse. The Society also operates the Kalona Museum, housed in an 1885 Italianate-style building. The museum features permanent and rotating exhibits about local history and culture. The Society also organizes educational programs, such as presentations about the Underground Railroad, a history of the Kalona area, and a tour of the Kalona Historic District.

In addition to its educational programs, the Society also organizes a variety of special events throughout the year, including a summer lecture series, a Heritage Day celebration, a quilt show and sale, and a holiday open house. The Society also offers a number of publications, including a quarterly newsletter, a book on local history, and a guide to the Kalona Historic District.
