South Parker Creek flows almost year round and supports riparian trees such as Arizona white, Emory, and Gambel oaks, Arizona sycamores, Arizona walnuts, inland box elders, and, at higher elevations, bigtooth (or canyon) maples. Near-permanent ponds in the creekbed support a population of canyon treefrogs.

The Pleasant Valley Historical Society, located in Young, Arizona, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of regional history. Founded in 1956, the Society works to promote understanding of the area's cultural heritage through educational programs, research, and the maintenance of a museum and library.

The Society's museum is located in the historical Pleasant Valley Store and Post Office building, constructed in the late 1800s in the heart of Young. It contains artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of the area's history, from its early settlers to its modern-day inhabitants. The museum also features a small gift shop and a library filled with books and other printed materials.

Like most maples, it turns red in autumn and is a close relative of the northeastern US / southeastern Canada sugar maple, and is regarded by some botanists as a variant of that species. Even the poison ivy is beautiful in fall <i>Toxicodendron rydbergii.</i> Leaves of three, let it be! Along Workman Creek / Forest Road 487. Creekside areas in the Sierra Ancha are loaded with poison ivy and the plants frequently encroach on trails. Hikers: No shorts and keep a sharp eye!
