The Upland Area Historical Society (UAHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rich history of the city of Upland, Indiana. Established in 1974, the UAHS works to collect, preserve, and interpret the artifacts, photographs, documents, and oral histories of the area. The UAHS is open to the public and hosts events and educational programs for residents and visitors to learn about the region’s past.
The UAHS operates out of a historic building in Upland’s downtown area. The building, built in 1895, was originally a bank and later served as a drug store. In addition to its administrative offices, the building contains a research library, a museum, and a gift shop. The library contains over 2,000 volumes of materials related to the history of Upland and the surrounding area. The museum features artifacts, photographs, and displays that tell the story of Upland and its people. The gift shop sells books, collectibles, and other items related to local history.
The UAHS organizes various events throughout the year, including public lectures and workshops on local history topics, walking tours of Upland’s historic neighborhoods, and a summer festival. The UAHS also works to promote and preserve local historic sites, including buildings, structures, and cemeteries.
