What comes after fossil fuel gens? Hydrogen?!? I could see this power plant from miles away. Even though it was in a different direction than where I was going, I couldn't resist driving out of my way to take a photo of its lights. Natural gas is replacing coal-fueled power generators. But after gas, what is next in the evolution of power generation? I was reading a story that California has its eye on creating the world's first hydrogen-fired power plant to replace ones run on fossil fuel. Hydrogen is the stuff that stars are made of. Water too. The problem is that it takes energy to separate hydrogen gas from its earthly molecules. If it takes more energy to extract hydrogen than the energy that the extracted hydrogen would give off, then what's the point?
