The Arizona Indian Living Treasures Foundation (AILTF) is a flagship program of the Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs, established in 1989 to recognize and honor the work of Arizona's Indian elders. AILTF celebrates the living traditions of Arizona's Indian tribes and celebrates the wisdom of these respected elders. The foundation recognizes elders who have been nominated for their lifetime of service, and whose work and commitment to the community have had a lasting impact.

The foundation presents awards to living elders who have demonstrated their commitment to the preservation of their tribe's culture, language, and traditions. The award is presented to the individuals at an annual event held in Flagstaff, Arizona and includes a traditional blessing. Additionally, the event features a traditional dinner, music, and performances. The foundation also holds a variety of other events throughout the year, such as workshops, lectures, and cultural exchanges, and provides financial assistance to tribal members and organizations in need.

The AILTF also works to promote and disseminate information about the achievements of Arizona's Indian elders and their contributions to the state's history and culture. By working with local and state governments, the foundation works to ensure that the traditional values of Arizona's Indian tribes are preserved and honored. Through its efforts, the foundation has become a vital part of the rich cultural heritage of the state.

Modern Day Deadheads <i><b>A Deadhead or Dead head is a fan of the American rock band the Grateful Dead. This is the modern day version.</b></i> If you're curious here's an interesting Wikipedia entry on the whole phenomenon: <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadhead" rel="noreferrer nofollow">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadhead</a> Part of the reason we left our tranqul settting at Fort Tuthill and moved to a better place. There was a huge cloud of "Smoke" that wafted it's way over the dividing line (fence) and invaded our space. Smelled like someone was burning a hippie! BTW, please don't zoom in to the lady on the left and her legs. I'm not sure that even a medical professional could explain it!
The Watering Hole <i><b>Watering Hole: (Noun) A social gathering place, such as a bar or saloon, where drinks are served. </b></i> It seems that the water faucet @ Tuthill had a bit of permanent leak which was well known by the locals. We had birds, bees, and a squirrel that stopped by to quench their parched throats. I'm not photographing bees and the squirrel must've been a tweaker (as squirrels seem to be), so this is the best I got. My usual shooting style, see something and fire away! BTW, I have NO idea what kind of bird this is, my guess is a Black Bird???
The Party's Over... <i><b>One of the many reasons we packed up and moved camp.</b></i> We planned on spending the weekend at the Fort Tuthill Luke AFB Recreation Area. It's a campground that is ran by the Air Force, open to active duty personnel, retired personnel, and disabled veterans (30% or more). Really nice place up in the woods, quiet and secure. At least we thought so when we booked. Come to find out there was a 3 day Electronic Music Festival at the Pepsi Amphitheater (next to the campground) the same weekend we decide to stay. Had it been an evening concert we probably would have stayed but 3 days of EDM combined with the "people" that were attending the festival was a bit too much. If you're a seasoned citizen like myself you'll probably understand the following, if you're not just ask your favorite "boomer" what I'm talking about. Imagine spending 3 days amongst a modern version of the "Deadheads"....Not at all what we planned on so we wound up pulling out after the first night. We'll be back there next year but you can rest assured that we'll be checking the amphitheater schedule before we book again. <a href="https://forttuthill.com/happenings-at-the-fort/" rel="noreferrer nofollow">forttuthill.com/happenings-at-the-fort/</a> Wish I could have got a better shot of the dog working the cars but sometimes we only get what we get.
Way Back Up In The Woods <i><b>Among the evergreens.... My all time favorite version of this classic song: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_WSXXPQYeY" rel="noreferrer nofollow">www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_WSXXPQYeY</a> </b></i> Up at Ft. Tuthill I found this honest to goodness Murder Shack! Solidly built building complete with bars on the windows (to prevent any unwanted escapes), new roof and a rock solid ventilation system to eliminate any potential smells. This is an old Forest Service building that has been converted into a cell site that blends into it's surroundings. The nice solid tree you see in back is actually a nicely done cell tower, one of the few I've ever seen that didn't look completely faux. Not sure how it would be to climb though.... If you think about it this really is a murder shack since cell phones did sign the death warrant for landlines in America.
Bicycle aesthetics If you saw the dirt road leading into this A-frame vacation home you would know the bicycle is more for aesthetics than utility. Canon EOS 1N with Lomography Lady Grey black and white film.
