The Collinsville Historical Association Inc., located in Collinsville, Alabama, was established in 1977 to preserve and promote the fascinating history of the community. The organization is dedicated to the preservation of the unique heritage of Collinsville, which is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The association consists of local citizens, businesses, and organizations who are passionate about preserving the history and culture of the community.

The association works to identify and protect historical sites, documents, and artifacts related to the history of Collinsville. They also serve as stewards for the preservation of local landmarks, such as the historic Collinsville Depot, which was built in 1907.

Advertising Barn - DeKalb County, AL As someone who looks for old fashioned advertisement painted on a barn, there seem to be a higher concentration of them in DeKalb County, AL than anywhere else I've been. This one was located on highway AL89 south of Desoto Falls State Park and advertises a local real estate company. In my pictures, there ads on both sides but one side is quite faded. These pictures were taken in 2013. While I could find this using Google Street View, the barn is still there but the ads are gone and it doesn't look much like this today. Wood Betony Wood Betony (Pedicularis canadensis), also called Canadian Lousewort. Although the flowers are often yellow, they can also be maroon. Furthermore, the flowers are often bicolored (maroon/white, maroon/yellow, or yellow/white). Location: Along a trail near the Canyon Mouth Picnic Area in the Little River Canyon National Preserve. Cherokee County, Alabama.
Little Brown Jug The flower of the Little Brown Jug (Hexastylis arifolia), also called Heartleaf. The flowers are usually hidden beneath the forest leaf litter, so to photograph a flower I must first brush aside a few dry leaves. Location: Along a trail near the Canyon Mouth Picnic Area in the Little River Canyon National Preserve. Cherokee County, Alabama.
Spurred Violet Spurred Violet (Viola rostrata). The long funnel-shaped spur at the rear of each flower makes this species quite distinctive. Location: Along a trail near the Canyon Mouth Picnic Area in the Little River Canyon National Preserve. Cherokee County, Alabama.
