Fort Creve Coeur is a historic site located in Creve Coeur, Illinois. The fort was established in 1680 by French explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, as a fur trading post. It was named Fort Creve Coeur, which means "broken heart" in French, after the failure of La Salle's expedition to the Mississippi River.

The fort was originally constructed as a wooden stockade, but was later rebuilt with stone and mortar by French traders in the early 18th century. The fort served as a trading post for nearly 50 years, until it was abandoned in 1717 due to conflicts with Native American tribes and the declining fur trade.

Today, visitors can explore the site of Fort Creve Coeur and view the remains of the stone walls that once surrounded the fort. The site also features a museum with exhibits on the history of the fort and the surrounding area, as well as a reconstructed trading post and a replica of a Native American village.
