Fulton County Historical and Genealogical Society is a non-profit organization in Canton, Illinois, dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Fulton County’s history and genealogy. The Society was founded in 1979 and is currently led by President, Debra Harrington. The Society has a permanent office and library located in the historic Canton Opera House building.
The Society offers several programs and services, including genealogical research, educational presentations, historical tours and lectures, a quarterly newsletter, and a genealogy library. The library houses a variety of resources, including books, journals, photos, maps, and other materials related to Fulton County history and genealogy.
The Society also organizes several annual events, such as the Fulton County Historical Fair and the Fulton County Genealogical Fair. In addition, the Society participates in many local events, such as the Canton Christmas parade, the Spoon River Drive, and the Spoon River Valley Scenic Drive.
The Society also works closely with other local historical organizations and institutions, such as the Canton Public Library and the Canton Historical Museum. The Society also collaborates with other organizations in the area, such as the Spoon River Valley Historical Society, the Lewistown Area Historical Society, and the Smithfield Historical Society.
The Society is committed to the preservation and promotion of Fulton County’s history and genealogy. Through its programs, services, and events, the Society strives to make Fulton County’s history and genealogy accessible to its members and the public.
