MAGNOLIA MANOR

Magnolia Manor is a historic building located in Cairo, Illinois. Built in 1874, it is one of the oldest buildings in the city and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building is a two-story, Italianate-style structure, with a mansard roof and a wrap-around porch. It was originally owned by Dr. George W. Burdick, a prominent local doctor.
The Manor is composed of two sections, the main house and the rear wing. The main house features a central hall on the first floor with parlors and the dining room to either side. There are four bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor. The rear wing contains two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
The exterior of the building is clad in yellow brick, with window and door frames and decorative detailing in white wood. The roof is of slate, and the porch is composed of wood and wrought iron.
The interior of the building retains much of its original character. The parlors feature hardwood floors, detailed trim, and marble fireplaces. The main entrance hall has the original stairway, with a curved mahogany railing. The kitchen has a large pantry and a butler’s pantry.
Magnolia Manor is an important part of Cairo’s history, and is a reminder of the city’s past. The building has been well preserved, and is open for tours and private functions. It is a beautiful example of Victorian architecture, and is a must-see for anyone visiting Cairo.
