Friends of the Coronado is a non-profit organization based in Rockford, Illinois, with a mission to preserve and restore the historic Coronado Performing Arts Center. The Coronado was built in 1927 and has since been an iconic venue for live performances, concerts, and events. However, due to lack of maintenance and funding, the theater fell into disrepair and was on the verge of being demolished.

In 1999, a group of concerned citizens formed Friends of the Coronado to save the theater from destruction. The organization has since raised millions of dollars through donations and grants to restore the Coronado to its former glory. The restoration included repairs to the roof, stage, and seating, as well as updates to the sound and lighting systems. In 2011, the Coronado reopened to the public with a sold-out performance by comedian Jay Leno.

Friends of the Coronado continues to support the theater through fundraising events, volunteer efforts, and advocacy for the arts. The organization also provides educational programs and opportunities for local youth to participate in the performing arts. The Coronado Performing Arts Center is now a cultural hub for the Rockford community and has been recognized as one of the top theaters in the country.
