The Chicago Cultural Center is a magnificent landmark in the heart of downtown Chicago. Located in the Loop at 78 East Washington Street, the building was originally built in 1897 as the city’s first public library. Today, it is one of Chicago’s most popular cultural attractions, hosting more than 1,000 free public programs and events every year.

The building is home to two stunning stained-glass domes, the world’s largest Tiffany dome and the world’s largest stained-glass mosaic. The domes are illuminated by natural sunlight, making them even more spectacular. Inside, the building houses two grand lobbies, the Preston Bradley Hall and the Sidney R. Yates Hall. These grand rooms are filled with impressive works of art, including mosaics and sculptures.

The Cultural Center also houses two exhibition galleries, the Randolph Street Gallery and the GAR Rotunda Gallery. The galleries showcase rotating exhibits from local and international artists, covering a range of mediums. The Cultural Center also has a performance venue, the Claudia Cassidy Theater, which hosts concerts and theatrical performances.

Other features of the Cultural Center include a cafe, a gift shop, a tourism information center, and the Chicago Office of Tourism. The Cultural Center is Chicago’s only free-admission cultural attraction and is open seven days a week, from 9am to 7pm.
