EDGEWATER HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Edgewater Historical Society (EHS) is a non-profit organization established in 1984 dedicated to preserving the history of Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood. EHS works to collect, preserve and interpret the history of Edgewater, while empowering the community to learn from the past and to shape the future. Its mission is to provide education and enrichment to the community, and to serve as an advocate for the preservation of the neighborhood's historical and cultural resources.

EHS is located in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood, and its headquarters are housed in a historic building, the Svea Hall. The building was built in the late 19th century and was originally used as a social and recreational center for the Swedish-American community. The EHS maintains a collection of photographs, documents, artifacts, and publications related to Edgewater's history, and hosts a variety of educational programs and events.

EHS also serves as a steward of Edgewater's cultural assets. The organization works with the city of Chicago and other stakeholders to promote the preservation and development of Edgewater's historic and cultural resources.
