The Cedarville Area Historical Society was founded in 1982 to preserve and promote the history of the Cedarville area. Located on the eastern edge of the state of Illinois, near the Mississippi River, the Cedarville area has a long and interesting history. The Society is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history of the area, including its people, places, and events.

The Society operates out of the historic John O’Neill House, which was built in 1858 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house serves as the Society’s museum and research center. Inside, visitors can find exhibits on the area’s past, including its Native American heritage and early European settlement. The house also houses a library of research material and artifacts related to the local history.

In addition to its museum, the Society hosts a variety of events throughout the year. These include lectures, workshops, and other educational programs. The Society also owns and operates a cemetery containing some of the area’s earliest settlers, which offers visitors a glimpse into the lives of those who lived in the area centuries ago.

The Cedarville Area Historical Society is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in the history of the Cedarville area.
