The DuSable Museum of African-American History is the first and oldest museum dedicated to African-American history and culture in the United States. Located in Chicago, Illinois, the museum was founded in 1961 by Dr. Margaret Burroughs, Dr. Charles Burroughs, and other artists and activists. The museum is named after Jean Baptiste Point DuSable, who is considered the first permanent resident of Chicago.

The museum houses a wide variety of permanent and temporary exhibits and collections related to African-American history and culture. Permanent exhibits include the “Museum of African-American History” and the “Hall of Great Americans” which feature many prominent African-Americans who have had an impact on the nation’s history. The museum also houses a research library, an auditorium, a theater, a film and video gallery, and a gift shop.
