Jean Baptiste Point du Sable Bridge, Michigan Avenue, Streeterville, Chicago, IL Built in 1918-1920, this Beaux Arts-style double-leaf double-deck bascule bridge was designed by Edward H. Bennett and William A. Mulcahy to carry Michigan Avenue across the Chicago River between the Chicago Loop and Streeterville. The bridge replaced the earlier Rush Street Bridge, located immediately to the west, and allowed Michigan Avenue to cross the Chicago River and run along the former right-of-way of Pine Street all the way to Oak Street and Lake Shore Drive. The bridge was built as part of the 1909 Plan of Chicago created by Daniel H. Burnham, and saw the completion of its decorative ornament in 1928, which included sculptures on the Bedford Limestone-clad bridge houses, with the sculptures being known as The Discoverers, The Pioneers, Defense, and Regeneration. The bridge is double-decker with two levels of traffic, with an upper level for non-commercial traffic and a lower level for commercial traffic to serve industrial operations, retail, and commercial office buildings along the Michigan Avenue corridor. The bridge is a contributing structure in the Michigan–Wacker Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The bridge was listed as a Chicago Landmark in 1991, and underwent a rehabilitation project in 2009. In 2010, bridge was renamed in honor of Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, of French and African descent and the first non-indigenous inhabitant of Chicago, whose house and fur trading post was constructed in the vicinity of the bridge during the 1780s.

Allerton Hotel, Michigan Avenue and Huron Street, Streeterville, Chicago, IL Built in 1922-1924, this Romanesque Revival-style skyscraper was designed by Murgatroyd and Ogden along with Fugard and Knapp to serve as the Allerton Hotel, and was the first building in Chicago to feature setbacks, as mandated by the 1923 zoning law. The building stands 25 stories and 360 feet (110 meters) tall, and housed over 1000 rooms, many of which were apartment style, and meant to serve as long-term accommodation for tenants, with one of the most notable early tenants being Louis Skidmore, whom founded the architecture firm of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. The building also contained amenities, including a library, sports facilities, and a solarium. The 23rd floor of the tower housed the Tip Top Tap Lounge from the 1940s until 1961, which is still advertised on the building’s north and south facades, and later became home to the Cloud Room in 1963, and has served as the Renaissance Ballroom since the 1990s. The building is clad in limestone at the base, which extends up to the sill line of the fourth floor windows, with roman arched bays, brick panels around the third floor windows, with gothic arches and trim at the first and second floor bays. Above the fourth floor sill line, the building is clad in red brick, with pilasters at the corners and between window bays between the fourth and eighteenth floors, with setbacks at the nineteenth floor, and chamfered corners at the corner towers above the nineteenth floor, arched windows at the 22nd and 23rd floors, balconies with machicolations at the 22nd floor, and hipped roofs, with the central tower rising an additional two stories above the corner towers, featuring signs mounted to the north and south facades, and an octagonal tower containing a chimney in the middle of the roof. The building was designated as a Chicago Landmark in 1998, and underwent a major renovation in 1998-1999 under the direction of Eckenhoff Saunders Architects, modernizing the hotel rooms and building systems, and restoring significant common areas within the building. The hotel reopened as the Allerton Crowne Plaza Hotel, remaining under the Crowne Plaza banner until after the building was sold in 2006, becoming The Allerton Hotel in 2007. The building underwent renovations around this time, and underwent more renovations after being sold in 2014, and is today known as the Warwick Allerton Hotel.

California Terrace, Lakeview East, Chicago, IL Built in the early 20th Century, these buildings sit along a short dead-end court and are clad in red and buff brick masonry with the two buildings along Halsted Street featuring first-floor retail spaces and the rest of the buildings featuring raised first floors with bay windows, low-slope roofs enclosed by parapets, and stone trim. The buildings are demonstrative of aesthetic trends in Chicago’s neighborhoods during the early 20th Century. The buildings are contributing structures in the Lakeview Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

North Broadway, Lakeview East, Chicago, IL Built in 1920, this Chicago School-style building features a red brick exterior that follows the angle of the two streets that intersect in front of it, with Sullivanesque stone trim, green tile accents, stone sills, an arched pediment over the two window in the central bay on the third floor, a stepped parapet with a stone cap, pilasters on either side of the central bay on the second and third floors with stone trim, Chicago-style windows and one-over-one windows, and a stone-clad base with geometric Art Deco flourishes, storefronts, a decorative trim surround at the doorway in the central bay, and fluted pilasters with abstracted and stylized ionic capitals.
