FRIENDS OF BOHEMIAN NATIONAL CEMETERY

The Friends of Bohemian National Cemetery (FBNC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of Bohemian National Cemetery, located in Chicago, IL. Founded in 2000, FBNC works to restore, maintain, and preserve the cemetery and its monuments, as well as to promote public awareness and appreciation of the cemetery’s history and significance.

The cemetery was established in 1877 by the Bohemian Roman Catholic community in Chicago and is the oldest continuously operating Bohemian cemetery in the nation. It serves as the final resting place for over 41,000 people, including many prominent members of the city's Czech, Slovak, and other Central European communities. FBNC is dedicated to preserving and restoring the cemetery’s historic monuments, and works to keep the cemetery grounds well-maintained, safe, and accessible.

FBNC works closely with the cemetery’s board of trustees, staff, and other organizations to ensure the cemetery remains a vital part of the community and is preserved for future generations. FBNC hosts a variety of events throughout the year to raise awareness of the cemetery’s history and to promote its preservation, such as tours and educational programs. The organization also works with local schools and organizations to promote volunteerism and stewardship of the cemetery grounds.
