The Cabeza Prieta Natural History Association (CPNHA) is a non-profit organization located in Ajo, Arizona. The mission of the CPNHA is to promote the understanding, appreciation, and conservation of the Sonoran Desert and its wildlife. The organization was founded in 1966 to protect and interpret the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge is located in the southwest corner of Arizona, along the border with Mexico. It is one of the most biologically diverse areas in North America.
The CPNHA works with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect and interpret the Refuge. The organization sponsors educational programs and field trips, produces a quarterly newsletter, and provides interpretive services to visitors. The CPNHA also works to protect the desert’s endangered species, such as the endangered Sonoran Pronghorn antelope.
The CPNHA also works to promote research and education about the Sonoran Desert. The organization works with universities and environmental organizations to conduct research and promote conservation efforts. The CPNHA also provides funding for research projects and sponsors educational activities.
The CPNHA is dedicated to educating the public about the importance of preserving the Sonoran Desert and its wildlife. The organization works to create a greater understanding and appreciation of the desert and its inhabitants. Through its efforts, the CPNHA hopes to ensure the future of this unique and treasured ecosystem.
