ELIJAH ILES HOUSE

The Elijah Iles House is a historic home located in Springfield, Illinois. It is a two-story brick Federal-style dwelling with a one-story wing. Built in 1820, it is one of the oldest surviving houses in the city and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house was built by Elijah Iles, a prominent Springfield merchant, businessman, and city founder.

The home was built in the Federal style, with a symmetrical five-bay façade and a hipped roof. The main entrance is on the south side of the house, with a single-leaf door and a fanlight above. The interior of the house retains a great deal of its original architectural detailing, including Federal-style mantelpieces, doorways, and staircases.

The Elijah Iles House has been preserved and is now open to the public. It is furnished with period pieces, and visitors can take a guided tour to learn about the house and its history. The house is a testament to the history of the city and a reminder of the life and times of Elijah Iles.
